Above is the title of an article in the NSCA quarterly PT journal that caught my attention right away. NSCA has been on the forefront of dissecting past theories of kids and strength training. This has created an arsenal of research showing the psychological and physiological benefits of exercise. This article clearly defines the words strength training, athleticism, and states the physiological benefits in such a way that it should call on all professionals to create opportunities for a healthier next generation. In short, under qualified supervision, kids can begin RT and progressing into submax effort and further more. Absolute strength can be tested and achieved after progressive training and adaptation. Communication between kids and coach is key during the entire session, specifically technique adjustments and proper form throughout movements and exercises.
